School & Professional Reports

Specialist Occupational Therapy reporting, consultation and environmental understanding

At Activate OT Scotland, we provide specialist Occupational Therapy reports, consultation and assessment to support children and young people across educational, care and professional settings.

Some children and young people require more detailed understanding of how sensory processing, emotional regulation, executive functioning, participation, motor coordination and environmental demands are affecting their ability to function within school, residential, community or care environments.

Our reports and consultation services are formulation-led, neurodiversity-affirming and focused on developing meaningful, practical recommendations that support participation, wellbeing and long-term functioning.

Reports and consultation may be commissioned by:

  • families

  • schools and educational settings

  • social work services

  • residential and secure care environments

  • fostering and adoption services

  • multidisciplinary teams

  • solicitors or professional services where appropriate

Areas that may be explored

Depending on the referral question and context, assessment and reporting may explore:

  • sensory processing and regulation needs

  • participation within educational or care environments

  • executive functioning and adaptive functioning

  • emotional regulation and nervous system stress

  • motor coordination and functional participation

  • environmental overwhelm and participation barriers

  • fatigue, burnout and participation capacity

  • school attendance and participation difficulties

  • routines, transitions and independence

  • support needs across different environments

Our approach recognises that behaviour, participation and functioning are shaped by the interaction between the child, the environment and the demands being placed upon them.

Assessment and consultation may include:

  • school or placement observation

  • functional participation assessment

  • sensory and regulation-informed assessment

  • environmental analysis and recommendations

  • consultation with families, carers and professionals

  • multidisciplinary liaison

  • review of existing reports and information

  • detailed written reports and recommendations

  • participation-focused planning and support guidance

Assessment methods are adapted according to the child or young person’s needs and may include structured observation, activity-based assessment, play-based assessment and standardised assessment tools where appropriate.

Who this may be helpful for

School and professional reports may be particularly helpful for children and young people who:

  • experience school distress or participation difficulties

  • present with complex neurodevelopmental profiles

  • experience significant sensory overwhelm or dysregulation

  • require support across multiple settings

  • are struggling within residential or care environments

  • have complex functional or environmental needs

  • require detailed recommendations for support planning

  • need integrated understanding across home, school and care systems

Our Approach

Our reports aim to move beyond describing isolated difficulties and instead develop a deeper understanding of the factors affecting participation, regulation and functioning across environments.

Recommendations are practical, realistic and designed to support safer, more sustainable participation within everyday settings.

We aim to help adults better understand what may be underlying distress, overwhelm or reduced participation so that support can become more responsive, effective and neurodevelopmentally informed.
